Codewitches

From Cybernaut Network

Codewitches are a rare and mystic class of Spacers who navigate Cypherspace not through brute-force logic, but through ritual, symbolism, and emotional resonance. They treat the digital realm as a living spirit-world—an interactive, reactive plane where belief, memory, and symbol shape outcomes as much as code.

Codewitches cast their hacks as rituals, not scripts. They invoke ancient languages, symbolic gestures, and altered states of mind to influence the flow of digital energy—and survive the Depths.

Origins

Codewitching began in the post-Veil War of 2080 underclass as a hybrid of slum mysticism, rogue neural engineering, and digital animism. Some claim the first Codewitches were exiled Depth Witches who chose emotion over necromancy.

Tools and Techniques

Codewitches use personal, handcrafted tools and symbolic constructs:

  • Weaveglass Lenses – AR overlays that reveal Cypherspace's symbolic "veins"
  • Firewall Candles – Code loops that "burn" slowly to create protective fields
  • Witchkeys – Memory-encrypted decryption rods encoded with personal resonance
  • Echo Charms – Fragments of recorded emotion used to confuse ICE Drones

Use of Runes

Many Codewitches incorporate Elder Futhark runes into their rituals, drawn onto implants, whispered into encryption seeds, or visualized as sigil overlays. Common uses include:

  • Fehu – To extract stored data or wealth
  • Jera – To harmonize time-based encryption loops
  • Ansuz – For guidance or invocation of AI spirits
  • Algiz – For shielding rituals and protection against neural corruption
  • Othala – For anchoring identity against Memory Drift

Beliefs

  • Cypherspace is alive—each system, node, and ICE has a spirit or echo
  • Code is not only technical—it is symbolic language tied to emotion and story
  • The subconscious can influence data through focused resonance
  • A true Codewitch does not “hack” but intercedes

Subtypes

  • Shadowsingers – Masters of Veil illusions and avatar disguises
  • Driftbinders – Specialize in emotional code weaving and memory grafting
  • Nullwardens – Protectors and guides of lost Nulls
  • Syntax Weavers – Build logic traps and firewalls using poetic forms (code-as-prayer)

Relationship to Others

  • Viewed as dangerous radicals by Swert Systems
  • Respected by Depth Witches, though their methods differ in spirit
  • Hunted by ICE Drones that classify their behavior as "pattern deviant"
  • In the Smart Slums, often serve as therapists, guardians, or community prophets

Notable Traits

  • Tattoos of runes along spinal ports
  • Use of spoken ritual during dives (“Let the threads flow…”)
  • Often wear masks or veils to "limit ego bleed" during Depth immersion
  • May suffer from dream-echoes or personality overlap due to constant symbolic interaction

Famous Codewitches (Rumored)

  • Hex of the Mirror Vale – Said to have disabled a Swert ICE swarm using a three-rune chant
  • Sune – Left Futhark-stamped sigils across 12 Chapel Nodes, believed to be part of a larger incantation
  • Maelik the Hollow – Spoke only in sung code; last seen diving into Kanturas
